The Shirley Historical Society Museum is Open most Mondays and Saturdays
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for visitors, researchers, and volunteers.
Also open many Thursday mornings and other times by appointment or by chance.

SPECIAL EVENTS IN 2019
 

How did Samson Cordage help Shirley grow?  The display includes a notated slide show, photos, maps, blueprints, and many other Samson Cordage artifacts. It will remain up through early May.

 

March 1st, 2nd, 3rd - ShirleyArts! presents Nunsense at St. Anthony's Church Hall. Reserved seat tickets go on sale February 1st. Order forms will be at Hazen Library or go to mktix.com/sha.

Saturday, March 9th 2:00 pm at Shirley Historical Society Museum,  Gravestone Restoration will be explained by Kai Nalenz of Gravestone Services of New England. Kai has restored eight stones in the Shirley Center Cemetery and will describe the process.  www.shirleyhistory.org

 Saturday, May 11th 7:00 pm Opening program and reception for Historical Society Museum display
Should children be seen and not heard? 
How did child raising philosophies change over the 20th century? How could this be seen in their clothes, books, and games?  Come to the opening reception and find out. All are welcome. www.shirleyhistory.org

 Saturday, June 1st 9:00 am – 4:00 pm  En Plein Aire Fundraiser
Painters will be invited to join us on historic Shirley Common 
and paint, out in the fresh air. Visitors are welcome to watch them at work.

That evening, 6:00-8:00 pm, there will be a reception in the Center Town Hall and the paintings will be auctioned off with half the proceeds going to the Historical Society.   www.shirleyhistory.org

ShirleyFest on the Shirley Center Common   Watch the entertainment, shop the crafts tables, let your children play the games, and enjoy a variety of foods served by local non-profit organizations.  To reserve sales space go to mail@shirleyarts.org.

 

Saturday, July 13th 4:00 pm  Historic Shirley Pub Crawl  Start at the Bull Run Restaurant for an explanation of early New England taverns, the effects of prohibition, and the growth of local drinking clubs. Then board a bus and visit sites of 22 Shirley drinking establishments with one stop for a libation. All tickets must be purchased in advance for $25 at www.shirleyhistory.org.

Saturday, September 14th 4:00 pm Fredonian Park Anniversary To be held at Fredonian Park.
The program will include the history of the area and the park. With the cooperation of the Conservation Commission, we also hope to have food for sale and a band concert in the gazebo. www.shirleyhistory.org

Saturday, October 5th 9:00 am - 2:00 pm  Annual Autumn Yard Sale  on the grounds of the Historical Society Museum Donations of books, baked goods, and flea market items are needed. We will also be selling Shirley souvenirs and chili and will need volunteers to help out.  www.shirleyhistory.org

Saturday, November 16th 6:00 pm  Pot Luck Supper and Historical Society Annual Meeting at Trinity Chapel’s Shepherd Hall, 186 Center Road. The program will be on the Fine Art of Letter Writing with many samples from Museum collections. www.shirleyhistory.org


Sunday November 24th - 4:00 - 6:00 pm Town Tree Lighting Festivities at Whiteley Park with music, marshmallows, hot chocolate, and Santa arriving on a fire engine.
